Giga Shipping Sdn Bhd was established in 2001 and began operations as a booking agent for customers seeking to ship their automotive vehicles into Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels plying between the eastern and western ports of Malaysia.
Today, the company serves as a single point of contact for customers, and its comprehensive suite of services include and are not limited to the coordination of all tasks, from booking to documentation processing, handling ad hoc matters with Port Authorities, freighting, customs clearance, to the collection of vehicles and its' delivery to our customer’s doorstep.
In 2015, the company’s track record, knowledge and experience saw it being entrusted to undertake the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) Management of Honda’s East Malaysia Centralised Distribution Centre (Logistics Hub) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and Kuching, Sarawak. The role included standard key management system, washing bays for vehicles to be cleaned before delivery to Honda dealers, security system to ensure safety of vehicles from thefts, parking lot management system, stock monitoring, a Kaizen system to ensure that vehicles remain in good condition while in storage and a thorough inspection facility.
In April 2016, Giga Shipping Sdn Bhd received an award in the category of Best Niche Logistics Service Provider 2016, by Frost & Sullivan, a mark of recognition after close to 30 years of its founding members’ involvement in the automotive logistics industry.
Straits Auto Logistics Sdn Bhd (SAL) was incorporated in 2002 and is a joint venture between Giga Maritime Group (GMG) and Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) Group - one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the world - to own and operate Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels for the transshipment of vehicles to East Malaysia and the region.
The company currently owns two vessels: the MV Straits Challenger RoRo vessel commissioned in 2013 and has the capacity of carrying 5,340 vehicles, and the MV Grand Vision RoRo vessel introduced into service in 2014 with a loading capacity of 5,040 vehicles.
The vessels are not limited to transporting passenger cars, motorcycles and light commercial vehicles, but also special vehicles such as military armored carriers and helicopters.
Straits Auto Logistics Sdn Bhd currently operates three voyages per month from Westport in Klang to East Malaysia calling on the ports of Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Labuan, Bintulu. It also calls on the regional ports of Singapore, Laem Chabang in Thailand, and Jakarta, Indonesia. The company also possesses the expertise, capabilities and network for the transshipment of vehicles worldwide via its partnership with NYK Group.
Giga Transporter Sdn Bhd, the Group’s new and improved Land Transportation Division was established in October 2019.
The company transports vehicles throughout Peninsular Malaysia and operates a transportation fleet of 104 single-car, rigid and articulated passenger car, motorcycle and light commercial vehicle carriers. All transporters are fully equipped with state-of-the-art Global Positioning System “GPS” that enables tracking of the vehicles on a real time basis and closely monitors the journey of our Car Carrier Captains.
All vehicles are collected and delivered within 24 hours (within Peninsular Malaysia) from the time booking has been confirmed.
Nexus Mega Carriers Sdn Bhd operates as the forwarding and shipping agency under the Group. The forwarding division handles the customs brokerage and port formalities for sea export and import shipments at Westports. The agency’s large network of partners provides shipping, warehouse, transportation, and terminal yard services.
The shipping sector serves as the appointed agent for Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) RoRo division and is responsible for handling all fiduciary duties of NYK vessels from before arrival at Westports to departure. Its varied services include, but not limited to acting as a crewing agent for Straits Auto Logistics Sdn Bhd (SAL), a husbanding agent for NYK and SAL, overseeing the loading and discharging operations including monitoring and safety implementation and training of Stevedores, documentation, monitoring billings from appointed and approved vendors and reporting and updating current market situation to the Principles on changes in the regulation.
Established in 2008 Giga Car Terminal Sdn Bhd operates a 39.6-acre facility in Westport, Klang for the storage, import, export and trans-shipment of vehicles.
The facility has a capacity of storing up 7,100 vehicles at any one time, and celebrating its 10th year in operations in 2018, had successfully handled a total of 1.19 million vehicles. In 2015, the terminal recorded an annual handling volume of 142,605 vehicles making us the preferred Car Terminal in Port Klang and Malaysia.
Giga Car Terminal prides itself in state-of-the-art operations, adopting the latest Information Technology (IT) systems that enable us to optimize the processing, handling and storage of vehicles. This includes providing fast and efficient documentation via bar coding, WIFI and web data systems complete with tracking ability and historical information for every individual unit of vehicle upon entering our terminal. In 2010, Giga Car Terminal Sdn Bhd became the only car terminal in the region to introduce highly sophisticated IT system for the bar coding tagging, scanning and tracking of every car received - from entry into facility until it is loaded into the Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessel.
The terminal is also integral to the Giga Maritime Group’s (GMG) supply chain, linking sea and land logistics. Its services also include, and are not limited to, the provision of covered and uncovered storage yards; Pre Delivery Inspection (PDI) facilities for customers' vehicles; car washing and detailing services; refueling; accessories fitment; tyre maintenance; stevedoring and tally services for RoRo vessel operations; other ancillary services; as well as supervision over cargo handling of special vehicles.
Meanwhile, for the transshipment of vehicles in East Malaysia, GMG also operates a 10-acre facility known as the Kota Kinabalu Car Terminal Sdn Bhd in Sabah, and the 14-acre Kuching Car Terminal Sdn Bhd in Sarawak.
